CLUBHOUSE HISTORY

The Karaka Lifestyle Estate Country Club is a building to be treasured. Construction began with a contract signed back on the 10th December 1907. Since then it has had the 4 bay garage added and then the link between the old home and the garage. Both of these additions were added in the original style and blend seamlessly to create a magical building.

The contract was for the builder Chas Blomfield to construct the home for one thousand nine hundred pounds for Mrs Hugh Campbell at Domaine Road Parnell. We do not know when the home was shifted from Parnell to its current home on Bremner Road.

The Architect was J Currie Architect of Victoria St, Auckland. We are lucky enough to have a number of the original Architects drawings including elevations of the home and the floor plan. This plan includes the breakdown of the contract sum and a paragraph specifying that “First Class Heart Kauri” is to be used for all weatherboards, flooring and joiners work. Framing timber can be “Good Rough Heart Kauri” while the T&G lining can be “Good Second Class”.

Breakdown of the Contract:

Amount      £1799
Extras        £29
Architect    £91 . 8 . 0
Total          £1919 . 8 . 0
